"Why" REID: Book

Fat, Stressed, and Sick - MSG, Processed Food, and America's Health Crisis

It's hard to dive into the "why" without diving into science. You might have already read I'm not a science person, but I still found this book very interesting and approachable. Dr. Reid and her co-author, Dr. Barbara Price, explain things clearly and orderly. There is a chapter they even offer skipping if you want "less science", but I read that one as well.

I'd like to quote on section on page 151 that I believes give a good overview of what the book is centered around:

"The REID food lifestyle considers food's impact on health at the molecular level. REID is based in biochemistry. Its food recommendations are predicted on the awareness that one substance, glutamate - which is present in large amounts in processed food - is indisputably linked to chronic inflammatory diseases. REID names the sources of glutamate in food, and in doing so gives readers specific gudance for what to eat, and what not to eat. Think of REID as a journey to redefine food."
